Why Are Health Insurance Costs So High in 2026?

You are not alone.

Many woke up shocked at their increase in health insurance bill on January 1st, 2026.

Your marketplace plan costs are so high this year are for three main reasons. We returned to original government subsidies, the health insurance market increase 15-35%, and we returned to the original subsidy cliff at 400% FPL (Federal Poverty Level).

Understanding the Healthcare Marketplace

The healthcare.gov marketplace is a platform for various health insurance companies to offer health insurance plans. These plans must meet certain requirements. Some requirements include no pre-existing conditions, requiring coverage for therapy, specialty drugs, pregnancy and delivery. The program sometimes allows government money to pay for parts of your health insurance cost.

The ACA started in 2013. These plans have been simple-to-use, work like employer group plans and often low cost. Those with lower income and/or high medical care needs find the most use of healthcare.gov plans. Health insurance plans not on healthcare.gov do not have the same rules and coverage requirements.

What is Federal Poverty Level (FPL)?

Federal Poverty Level (FPL) is a formula of your family size and your household income. How much total money each member will earn for the year and your total family size fits you into an FPL percentage. This tells the government how much you pay and how much they pay.

The 400% Subsidy Cliff

One of the biggest drawbacks of the ACA is the 400% FPL subsidy cliff. This means if the combination of your income and family size exceeds 400% FPL, you will pay 100% of the cost. Only $1 over the cliff and you pay 100% of the health insurance costs for the entire year.

Pandemic-Era Changes to Healthcare Subsidies

In 2020, the US government declared a pandemic over a coronavirus outbreak. Emergency authorizations allowed the government to expand their funding to programs. Programs like Medicaid and healthcare.gov received temporary funding and looser rules. Healthcare.gov plans had two massive changes:

The subsidy cliff extended to 750% of the Federal Poverty Level
The government began paying more than normal

Let's give you an example. Say your ratio 50% of the health insurance bill. After the emergency authorization, your cost was only 20% of the bill – at the same income and family size.

These extra government payments stayed constant for nearly four years. Many thought these temporary changes was how it always been and became normal.

Political Uncertainty and the 2025 Government Shutdown

Last fall, two extra pressures caused more uncertainty and confusion. The extra emergency government help was set to expire at the end of 2025. Congress was to vote if they would extend the extra help, or return back to the original. This became a hot button topic. Congress shut down the government.

This resulted in 30 days shorter open enrollment window to choose the right plans. No one knew if the plans would cost you 20% or the original 50% of the total insurance cost. Those who are in the 400+% subsidy cliff did not know if they would be get any help or if they were going to pay 100% of the costs. We dealt with many frustrations and much uncertainty.

Congress Returns to the Original Rules

Congress made a final vote after open enrollment. In January 2026, Congress chose to go back to the original rates and rules.

If you saw your health insurance costs jumped 2-3x or 10x, you may now know a bit more why! The combination of government shut down and delayed voting is what made this such a surprise.

If you ask a small business owner where most of their opportunities come from, you’ll usually hear some version of the same answer: referrals, word of mouth, “someone who knew someone.”

Behind nearly every thriving local business is an invisible network of relationships quietly moving opportunities from one person to another. No big announcements. No flashy campaigns. Just a steady flow of trust being passed along behind the scenes.

This is how local economies work. Not just through marketing. Not just through pricing or location. But through connection and loyalty. And those connections take time.

The Network You Can’t See (But Feel Every Day)

Think about how business really gets done in your community.

A contractor needs an electrician and calls someone they’ve worked with before.

A new homeowner asks their real estate agent for someone who builds fences or builds organization in garages.

A banker hears a client mention they’re expanding and connects them to a commercial realtor.

A consultant introduces two clients who could benefit from working together.

None of this shows up in a formal report. But it drives real revenue, real growth, and real stability.

This is where the chamber plays a much bigger role than many people realize. A chamber isn’t just hosting events and sending newsletters. It actively shapes the invisible network of the business community. And chamber membership is like the golden ticket to the business community, if you use it.

Every conversation sparked between two members has potential because every time someone learns what another business does, a new connection point is created.

The chamber becomes the place where relationships begin, strengthen, and multiply. These introductions are the starting points for future referrals, collaborations, and opportunities.

The Compounding Effect of Connection

The real power of this network is not in one introduction. It’s what happens over time. You meet one person. That person introduces you to another. That connection leads to a project. That project leads to a referral. That referral turns into a long-term client.

And it works the other way too. Maybe you’ve been doing your own books and now you’re ready for someone else to take it over. You know that people you meet through the chamber have a connection to the community.

Now multiply those introductions and referrals across dozens or hundreds of relationships. It’s why consistent engagement matters.

Showing up once is helpful. Showing up regularly is what builds recognition. And recognition is what leads to being top of mind when opportunities move through the network.

Many business owners think of networking as something they must do or conversely don’t have time for.

The more useful way to see it is this:

Local Leaders Unite to Support the Community

The Valley Crossroads Chamber of Commerce is proud to stand alongside our local leaders as they advocate for the needs of our growing communities.

Recently, Mayor Chris Carn of Saratoga Springs and Congressman Burgess Owens addressed the U.S. House of Representatives Natural Resources Subcommittee during a hearing on H.R. 4716 — the Saratoga Springs Post Office Act. The legislation, sponsored by Congressman Owens, seeks to bring a dedicated United States Post Office to Saratoga Springs, a long-standing need for one of the fastest-growing regions in Utah.

Local Leaders Unite to Support the Community

The hearing represented a strong show of collaboration between local and federal leadership.

Building Tomorrow’s Leaders Today

The Valley Crossroads Chamber of Commerce is excited to launch Jr. Chamber Makerspace Open Lab Hours, a hands-on opportunity for junior high and high school students to explore technology, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

Beginning March 18, students ages 14–18 are invited to visit the Jr. Chamber Makerspace in Eagle Mountain to experiment with tools, collaborate with peers, and turn creative ideas into real projects.

A Space for Innovation and Exploration

The Jr. Chamber Makerspace is designed to give students access to tools and resources that help spark creativity and build valuable skills for the future.

During Open Lab hours, students can:

Try out makerspace machines and tools
Experiment with 3D printing and design software
Record audio or content in the podcast studio
Work on creative projects or business ideas
Connect with other students interested in innovation and entrepreneurship

The program focuses on hands-on learning and encourages students to explore their interests in technology, media, and business development.

On March 5, the Valley Crossroads Chamber of Commerce hosted another impactful Voices of the Valley event at the Aldara Clubhouse in Saratoga Springs, bringing together business leaders, public officials, and community members to discuss the future of the rapidly growing Valley Crossroads region of Utah County.

Meta Community Action Grants

Meta is rolling out its annual Community Action Grants to support nonprofit organizations serving Eagle Mountain and greater Utah County. This program offers a valuable opportunity for local nonprofits—especially those in the Chamber’s network—to gain funding, expand impact, and collaborate in new ways.

What Are the Community Action Grants?

Meta’s Community Action Grants are a competitive funding initiative designed to support projects that address key local needs. Eligible applicants include public schools (within the Alpine School District) and qualified nonprofits operating in Utah County.

Projects should align with at least one of the following goals:

Leverage technology for community benefit
Strengthen sustainable, resilient communities
Expand access to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education

Why This Matters for Our Community

Meta has committed to running this grant program locally —meaning decision-makers are closer to the ground and more familiar with Eagle Mountain’s unique needs.

As Evan Berrett, Director of Legislative & Strategic Services for Eagle Mountain, explained:

“This is not sending off a grant application to a Meta admin somewhere far away … This is a local program from our local Meta facilities.”

Importantly, these are not tax dollars. The funding comes directly from Meta’s corporate resources.

Over the years, the grants have helped fuel a variety of community initiatives: technology enhancements in schools, environmental projects, STEAM expansions, and more. Because of that track record, this year’s grant cycle holds promising potential for nonprofits in our region.

How You Can Get Involved

Here’s how organizations in the Valley Crossroads area can make the most of this opportunity:

Review eligibility and guidelines. Be sure your nonprofit or public school fits within the criteria and understands the focus areas.
Draft a compelling proposal. Focus on clear outcomes, sustainability, and how your work aligns with Meta’s goals.
Leverage partnerships. The Chamber is ready to support collaboration between nonprofits, schools, and local businesses to strengthen proposals.
Promote awareness. We can help share this grant opportunity across our networks to ensure maximum participation.
Plan for implementation. If awarded, have a structured plan for how you’ll use the funds within the one-year timeline.

Eagle Mountain is growing — and so are the incredible resources available to families in our community! On October 17, 2025, we had the joy of celebrating the grand opening of Strides Pediatric Therapy’s new buildings right here in Eagle Mountain.

Strides Pediatric Therapy has been a valued part of our local community, offering compassionate and effective pediatric services that help children thrive. Their team provides a range of therapies including occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy, all designed to support children in building confidence, independence, and essential life skills.

To commemorate this exciting milestone, the Valley Crossroads Chamber of Commerce joined Strides for a ribbon-cutting ceremony complete with our ceremonial ribbon and giant scissors — a tradition that symbolizes growth, success, and community partnership. City leaders, chamber members, families, and friends all came together to show their support and celebrate the impact Strides continues to make in Eagle Mountain.

This new location reflects the remarkable strides that the organization has made in supporting local families. Where Your Trash Goes After It Leaves the Curb — Inside IRL

Every day, more than 2,500 tons of trash from Northern Utah arrives at Intermountain Regional Landfill (IRL), one of the largest in the state. Each load is managed with care to protect the environment and our communities.

Since 2011, our team — led by Rob Richards and Brian Alba — has combined decades of experience with advanced engineering to deliver long-term infrastructure for the region while keeping operations safe, efficient, and compliant.

More Than a Landfill

IRL isn’t a dump — it’s a defensive fortress. Beneath the surface lies a triple-liner containment system: bentonite clay, welded HDPE liner, geocomposite fabric, and a protective soil cover — all designed to keep materials securely contained for generations.

Looking ahead, IRL will also be home to a renewable energy generator, transforming landfill gas into a continuous power source to help meet our growing community’s energy needs.

At the heart of it all is our team — skilled, hard-working people who operate equipment, inspect loads, and work through every season and all weather to keep the site running safely and efficiently.

We’re committed to being good neighbors — maintaining clean grounds, assisting with highway litter cleanup, and supporting community events.

At Zero Hunger, our mission has always been rooted in compassion and community. What

began as a nonprofit focused on addressing food insecurity has now grown into a much

broader effort to support and empower families in every aspect of food education, access, and

sustainability.

We’ve learned that ending hunger isn’t just about putting meals on the table—it’s about giving

families the tools to thrive. Today, Zero Hunger focuses on teaching families how to create

healthy, affordable meals, how to can and preserve food, and how to stretch their budgets

while still eating well. We’re also passionate about building community gardens that bring

neighborhoods together while providing fresh, local produce.

As Miss Eagle Mountain’s 1st Attendant, our founder Trieste Smith is dedicated to serving

the community she loves. Her platform is more than a title, it’s a mission. She is actively

working with local builders to include community gardens in new residential developments,

and is eager to collaborate with the city to bring these gardens to existing neighborhoods

as well. These gardens aren’t just about food, they’re about creating spaces where people

connect, learn, and grow together.

To support these initiatives, Trieste is creating a family cookbook filled with easy,

budget-friendly recipes and practical food-saving strategies. This cookbook will help fund

workshops, online content, and garden development throughout Eagle Mountain and

surrounding communities.

At Birthday Box Foundation, we believe every child deserves to feel special on their birthday, no matter their circumstances. Whether a child is living in a shelter, spending time in the hospital, or navigating hardship at home, a birthday should still feel like a celebration. That’s why we create and deliver customized “birthday boxes” filled with everything a child needs to celebrate: cake-making supplies, decorations, party items, and thoughtful gifts — including a want, a need, something to read, and a STEM/STEAM activity.

Our mission is simple but powerful: to bring joy, hope, and a sense of normalcy to children experiencing hardship, through the magic of a birthday celebration they might otherwise go without. Our Birthday In A Box program provides at risk youth and food insecure families with a sense of normalcy and belonging. Since our founding, we’ve partnered with schools, shelters, hospitals, and social service agencies throughout Utah to make birthdays brighter for kids who might otherwise go without.

“What began as a hyper-local nonprofit serving families in Eagle Mountain has grown into a multi-county, award-winning organization — all thanks to the support of our volunteers, donors, and local businesses. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the networking, business advising, and encouragement from the Valley Crossroads Chamber and the mentorship of fellow nonprofit leaders like Camille Hawkins of The Wellness Farm Foundation and Katie Bunnell of Live Your Dream Foundation,” says co-founder Emily Buss.

What sets Birthday Box apart is our hands-on, personalized approach. Each box is curated with the child’s age, preferences, and needs in mind. We don’t just send out generic supplies— we create meaningful, memorable experiences, providing a sense of normalcy during the most challenging times. We provide everything a family would possibly need to celebrate childhood birthdays, wherever they call home, in addition to providing books and educational activities. Because all children should have access to enriching and engaging educational opportunities.

And we can’t do it alone. Community support is the heartbeat of our work. One of our newest partnerships, for example, connects large families we serve with experiences and tickets to events they might never otherwise access. This kind of collaboration reminds us that when we come together, we can create lasting joy.

Right now, our biggest need is finding sponsors to help us secure a dedicated delivery van, a critical step in reaching more families as we have several community partners across Utah County and SLC waiting for our services. As demand for birthday boxes continues to grow, a large vehicle will allow us to expand our delivery range and serve more children quickly, and improve efficiency.

Honoring Heroes: The Story Behind Mortenson Construction’s 2025 Gold Star Clay Shoot

At Valley Crossroads Chamber, we believe in celebrating and supporting our members who are making a real difference — not just in business, but in our communities. As part of our new blog series highlighting community and service-based initiatives, we are proud to feature Mortenson Construction and their incredible 2025 Gold Star Clay Shoot.

As we prepare for the 3rd Annual Gold Star Clay Shoot on June 6, 2025 , we want to share the story behind the event — the “why” that drives this meaningful day of honor, remembrance, and service.

The Meaning Behind the Gold Star

During World War I, families displayed blue star banners in their windows for each immediate family member serving in the armed forces. When a service member died in service, the blue star was replaced with a gold one — a visible, solemn reminder of sacrifice.

The Gold Star tradition reminds us that freedom comes at a cost. The Mortenson Construction team has created this event to honor those service members and their families who have given everything for our country.

Honoring Marine Cpl. Kyle W. Powell

Each year, the Gold Star Clay Shoot honors a Gold Star family to put faces and personal stories to the sacrifice.

This year, we are proud to honor the Pfander family and their son, Marine Cpl. Kyle W. Powell .

Kyle Powell grew up in Colorado Springs and, as the son of two career Army officers, was deeply rooted in service. After high school, he joined the Marines, completing boot camp in San Diego and training as a Combat Engineer.

During deployments to Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Iraq, Kyle distinguished himself as a leader and protector. He completed 120 missions in just seven months and received the Navy Achievement Medal for designing a bunker that saved fellow Marines’ lives.

On November 4, 2006, while sweeping for roadside bombs, Kyle was killed by an IED at the age of just 21.

Kyle’s family will be joining Mortenson and event participants on June 6th to share more about his legacy and to connect with the community that gathers in honor of families like theirs.

About the Event

The Gold Star Clay Shoot is much more than a sporting event — it’s a chance for our business and local communities to come together in support of something bigger than ourselves.

Location: Wasatch Wing & Clay, Cedar Fort, Utah

Participants rotate through a series of fun, challenging shooting stations. Whether you are an experienced shooter or trying it for the first time, everyone is welcome. Beyond the shooting competition, the day includes food, prizes, camaraderie, and the opportunity to connect with a great cause.

Supporting Our Veterans: American Military Family

All proceeds from the event benefit American Military Family , a nonprofit that helps veterans move “from suicidal to successful.”

Programs funded by this event include mental health support, career transition training, and community connection efforts — all focused on improving the lives of veterans and their families.

Every dollar raised is a powerful step toward changing lives.

Hi, I'm Brandon King, a Utah native and Eagle Mountain resident for 16 years. My journey to becoming an entrepreneur started, like many great ideas, in my garage, fueled by a desire to solve a problem for my family.

I've always been drawn to the water, spending countless hours canoeing and kayaking around our beautiful state. But when I married my wife, Heather, and our family grew, those small boats just weren't practical anymore. Heather wasn't a fan of their tippy nature, and with kids in the picture, safety and stability became top priorities. I dreamt of a boat that comfortably and safely accommodated my whole family.

But towable family boats come with their own set of challenges. They need dedicated boat trailers, take up a ton of storage space, are difficult to maneuver and hook up, and are not cheap. Then there's the licensing and registration, not to mention the need for a bigger tow vehicle. It all added up to more than my family could afford.

Frustrated, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Armed with determination (and a little stubbornness), I got to work in my garage. After three prototypes and countless hours of experimenting and refining later, the idea for RedHead Trailer & Boat was born!

RedHead Trailer & Boat offers a unique solution: a recreational trailer and catamaran boat platform designed to simplify your life. It stores compactly, freeing up precious garage space, is easy to maneuver by hand (even with a toddler in tow!), and eliminates the need for a dedicated trailer and large tow vehicle, significantly reducing the costs of owning a trailer and boat.

Building a Business, One Step at a Time

Creating a great product is only half the battle. I knew I needed guidance and support to turn my invention into a thriving business. That's where the Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce (EMCC) stepped in. The EMCC has been an invaluable resource, connecting me with fellow entrepreneurs, providing access to educational programs, and even offering affordable retail space through initiatives like ShopFest.

In August, I further invested in my entrepreneurial journey by enrolling in the University of Utah's Master of Business Creation (MBC) program. The MBC's personalized mentorship and innovative curriculum are providing me with the knowledge and tools I need to succeed.

2024 Year in Review: A Year of Growth, Community, and Unprecedented Achievements

As we close the books on 2024, we celebrate a year of remarkable growth, dynamic programming, and outstanding accomplishments that reflect the strength and vibrancy of our Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce. This year, we’ve achieved milestones that have elevated our community, empowered local businesses, and set a foundation for even greater success in the years to come. Chamber Growth and Membership Milestones

This year, our Chamber grew stronger than ever with the addition of 147+ new members, expanding our network of businesses and professionals who are driving Eagle Mountain’s success. Together, we hosted over 3,000 attendees at Chamber events, dedicating a collective 912 hours to training, 681 hours to networking, 740 hours to advocacy, and 619 hours to Ambassadors supporting local businesses. These numbers reflect our unwavering commitment to fostering meaningful connections and providing invaluable resources to our members.

$250,000 Grant from Meta: This generous grant has enabled us to provide critical resources and support to local businesses, further enhancing their capacity to grow and thrive.
Grand Opening of the Launch Pad with Governor Cox: We proudly unveiled our expanded entrepreneurial hub, the Launch Pad, with Governor Cox in attendance. This facility now includes an additional 1,500 sq. ft. of incubator offices, meeting spaces, and an expanded recording studio.
Meta Building Business Workshops and Tech Tools Monthly Classes: These educational programs equipped our members with cutting-edge knowledge and tools to succeed in a digital economy.

Fifth Circuit Court Ruling Reinstates Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) Deadlines

On December 23, 2024, a pivotal ruling by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals lifted the nationwide injunction against the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA). As a result, the previously paused Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirements have been reinstated under new extended deadlines announced by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

Updated BOI Deadlines

Recognizing the period of uncertainty caused by the injunction, FinCEN has provided updated deadlines for BOI reporting:

For Companies Created or Registered Before January 1, 2024

New Deadline: January 13, 2025.
This replaces the original January 1, 2025, deadline.

For Companies Created or Registered Between September 4, 2024, and December 23, 2024

New Deadline: January 13, 2025.
This extension applies to companies with filing deadlines initially falling between December 3, 2024, and December 23, 2024.

For Companies Created or Registered Between December 3, 2024, and December 23, 2024

New Deadline: 21 additional days from their original filing deadline.

For Companies Qualifying for Disaster Relief

These companies may have deadlines beyond January 13, 2025, based on their specific circumstances.

For Companies Created or Registered On or After January 1, 2025

Deadline: 30 days to file BOI reports with FinCEN following notice of creation or registration.

What Led to the Changes?

The December 23 ruling stemmed from a case, Texas Top Cop Shop, Inc. v. Garland, where a district court’s injunction on December 3, 2024, had temporarily halted the enforcement of the CTA and BOI reporting requirements. However, the Department of Justice (DOJ) appealed the decision and requested an expedited resolution.

The Fifth Circuit’s ruling indicated a strong likelihood that the government would prevail in defending the constitutionality of the CTA. In light of this, FinCEN acted promptly to extend deadlines and clarify compliance requirements for affected businesses.

What Does This Mean for Eagle Mountain Businesses?

As the injunction is no longer in effect, virtually all small businesses (unless a specific exception applies) must file their initial BOI report before the applicable deadlines listed above. If your business falls under any of the categories mentioned, ensure you meet the required deadlines to remain compliant.

The Chamber is organizing additional information sessions in the coming weeks to help small business owners comply with these filing requirements. For further guidance, reach out to your legal or financial advisors or visit FinCEN’s website for detailed instructions on filing BOI reports.

Stay Consistent- Plan to do your bookkeeping at least monthly if not weekly.
Keep receipts and records- Keep a filing folder of receipts or utilize the QuickBooks Online app feature to upload receipts.
Seek Professional Advice- Seek professional advice when you are unsure about something in your business.

2. Set Up a Chart of Accounts

A chart of accounts is a categorized list of all accounts your business will use. Typical categories include:

Assets: What your business owns (e.g., cash, inventory).
Liabilities: What your business owes (e.g., loans, accounts payable).
Equity: Owner's equity or retained earnings.

Eagle Mountain Chamber receives new grant to help support local businesses

The Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $250,000 grant from Meta Eagle Mountain Data Center to establish a Business Resource Center aimed at supporting local small businesses. This grant is in addition to the funding received from Utah's Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity to further business development and job creation in Eagle Mountain and surrounding areas.

The Business Resource Center, named Launch Pad, will feature a state-of-the-art Social Media Lab and Prototyping Workshop. Melissa Clark, CEO of the Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce, expressed her excitement about the new resources, stating, "Launch Pad - Business Resource Center is going to be the most amazing set of resources available in the whole state!"

Clark highlighted the importance of catering to the needs of the local business community, particularly the 80% of home-based businesses in Eagle Mountain. "Many home-based businesses lack access to the resources available in traditional office settings. Launch Pad aims to change that by providing top-of-the-line facilities and equipment right here in our community," she added.

The Social Media Lab will offer cutting-edge technology including high-quality computers, software, camera equipment, backdrops, and green screens, empowering businesses to create compelling marketing materials. Additionally, the center will feature a Podcast Recording Studio and a Prototyping Workshop to facilitate product development.

The Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce was honored to host Congressman Burgess Owens, Representative Robert Spendlove, Eagle Mountain City Administrator Paul Jerome, Eagle Mountain Councilman Brett Wright, and Dave Pitcher and Savannah Peterson of the Central Utah Water Conservancy District at the most recent Chamber Learning Luncheon. These panelists discussed various aspects of water conservation efforts and the challenges faced at different levels of governance. The discussion focused on local, regional, state, and federal initiatives and how they contribute to achieving a balance between water conservation requirements and constitutional liberties.

On the local level, Paul Jerome highlighted the collaborative efforts being made in Eagle Mountain, with businesses actively participating in water conservation projects and new economic development ventures. Brett Wright pointed out the unique challenges faced by Eagle Mountain due to its specific landscape and climate.

The panelists also emphasized that a cookie-cutter approach to water conservation does not work, especially in Eagle Mountain. The Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the "Utah Patriot Partner & Veterans' Services Employer Workshop" on June 14th at 5:30 PM. The event promises to be an exceptional opportunity for employers to learn about the benefits of being a Utah Patriot Partner and the many tax and financial incentives available for hiring veterans.

The Utah Patriot Partner program aims to connect Utah's veterans with employment opportunities and provides employers with tax and financial benefits for hiring veterans and their spouses. The Patriot Partner program offers tax credits of up to $9,600 for each veteran hired, with an additional $1,200 for each disabled veteran. In addition, employers who hire veterans through the program can save money on unemployment insurance and receive other financial incentives.

In this workshop, the Utah Department of Workforce Services will provide valuable information on becoming a Patriot Partner, connecting with veterans and veteran resources, and accessing the many tax and financial incentives available.

This workshop will provide employers with a clear understanding of how the Patriot Partner program works and how they can leverage it to improve their workforce while supporting the veteran community.

Attendees will also learn more about the many resources and networks available for supporting veteran employees with disabilities and how providing support for veterans in the workplace can be beneficial for businesses. This workshop is well-suited for HR professionals, business owners, and anyone interested in hiring and supporting military veterans.

Celebrating 10 Years with Eagle Mountain Counseling

The Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce was honored to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Eagle Mountain Counseling with its owner Darren Gillespie. It was a fantastic celebration recognizing Darren’s dedication and commitment to providing mental health care and support to individuals, families, and couples in the community. Darren's hard work and outstanding services have undoubtedly made a significant impact on improving the overall mental health of the Eagle Mountain community.

Eagle Mountain Counseling originally was housed in a small office in the Ranches, near where his building is today. Now, Eagle Mountain Counseling employees 25 individuals from the community and has its own building, with offices to lease out to other small fledgling businesses. Do you want a chance to really get noticed this summer?

The Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Eagle Mountain City to give our local businesses opportunities for exposure as they engage with members of the community during the anticipated annual Movies in the Park events hosted by Eagle Mountain City. For years, members of the community have flocked to Movies in the Park to enjoy the beautiful weather, fun entertainment, and comradery with their Eagle Mountain neighbors. This year, Eagle Mountain City's award winning events department will be hosting four movies in the park over the course of the summer, and they are looking for business to act as treat sponsors and information sponsors at each movie. Each movie is projected to have 100-500 Attendees.

As Eagle Mountain Chamber works to coordinate this opportunity to best serve both our local businesses and the members of our community, we are particularly hoping to give our small businesses a chance to shine. These events are purely for entertainment, and sponsors will not be selling services. However, information and education is always welcome! The city is working to ensure that the events are free, fun nights for families where they don’t feel pressured to buy anything. There are many ways to participate!

Treat sponsors (1) would be responsible for sponsoring a food truck and paying for the first 150 people to come to the truck. They would also be able to set up an info booth next to the food truck.
Information sponsors (1-2) provide a game or an activity to engage with those that stop by their booth and/or fun swag/giveaways (and would ideally have a business that relates to the theme of the movie that night).
Popcorn sponsors (1) can donate their time during the event and make and give out popcorn, the city can provide the supplies and the business can run the popcorn station.
Merchandise sponsors (unlimited) can participate without having to attend the event. They can donate fun glow sticks/necklaces, flashlights, or other company merchandise that can relate to the movie or theme of the night that kids and families would enjoy. The products can have your company logo and give them to the city before the event so it can be passed out with the popcorn.

The Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce has recently reached a significant milestone - its 200th member! The Chamber of Commerce has been successful in serving the business community of Eagle Mountain since its inception in the fall of 2018, and the addition of this new member solidifies its status as a critical player in the region's business ecosystem.

The Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce is an excellent example of a vibrant and robust chamber. In the time that it has been around, it has worked tirelessly to provide its members with relevant and useful resources and programs. Some of the programs and initiatives that the chamber offers include networking events like Flash Lunches or Nighttime Networking, educational seminars such as Business Boot Camps or Lunch & Learns, and advocacy on behalf of its businesses. These efforts have helped the Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce become an essential organization for the local business community.

Reaching 200 members is a significant milestone for any chamber of commerce, and the Eagle Mountain Chamber's achievement is no exception. This milestone is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the board of directors for the chamber; the chamber president, Melissa Clark; staff and ambassadors of the chamber; as well as the support and enthusiasm of its members.

One of the most significant benefits of reaching this milestone is that it will allow the chamber to continue to expand its offerings and programs, such as chamber luncheons, community outreach, or the recent addition of the Business Resource Center. With more members, there are more opportunities to have a more significant impact on the local business community. Moreover, with a larger membership base, the chamber will be able to garner more resources and funding to support various initiatives. This, in turn, will allow the chamber to provide even more support to the business owners and entrepreneurs in Eagle Mountain.

The Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce's ongoing success is also a good sign for the local economy. A strong and thriving business community is a crucial factor in the growth and development of a city or region. By supporting local businesses and providing them with the resources they need to succeed, the chamber is playing an essential role in driving the region's economic growth.

With its 200th member, the Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce is well-positioned to take on new challenges and continue to support the business community of Eagle Mountain in whatever ways it can. Both chamber leadership and members should be proud of this achievement and the vital role they are playing in the region's economic development.

New Additions to our Chamber Staff

As our chamber expands to include more and more members, we have to expand our staff to better serve those members! That is why we are so excited to have Emily Hynst and Rachael Smith join our team. The addition of these two awesome people and the talents and skills they bring will continue to further the expansion of our chamber and all of the services and opportunities we are able to provide for our members.

Emily Hynst - Administrative Assistant

Emily says that when she got married, she officially got the world’s most unique name (if you “Google” her, there is no other Emily Hynst in the world!) and she tries to live up to that uniqueness in everything she does. She married her sweetheart, Quentin, at the start of the Coronavirus Pandemic, and they recently moved to Eagle Mountain and love it! When she is not busy spending time exploring the beauty of Eagle Mountain, she shares her talents in the Eagle Mountain Symphony. She graduated from the Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University with a degree in Experience Design & Management (ExDM), which is essentially the combination of solid business principles and professionally curated experiences (everything from the UX on your favorite website to a family vacation in Disneyland).

Emily has been leading and engineering experiences her whole life. She started with coordinating “American Idol” for her friends at recess in elementary school, to the popular Chinese New Year Celebration held every year at Skyridge High School in Lehi, and later in college, she discovered the ExDM program, where she learned to create effective and memorable workshops and experiences. She has crafted marketing, programming, and experiences for a myriad of organizations and businesses including the Alzheimer’s Association, Thanksgiving Point, Bean Life Science Museum, BYU Bookstore, and with renowned event planners in New York. Emily also received her Event Design Certificate from the Events Industry Council. We are so excited to have her as a part of the Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce Team!

Rachael Smith - ShopFest Coordinator

Rachael joined the Eagle Mountain Chamber in 2022, attended our first series of Business Boot Camp and also serves as a Chamber Ambassador. Rachael is married to her best friend, Dana Smith, and they own Mucky Boot Pest Control. Together they have three children, Trieste, Jason and Emeline, who keep them very busy with volleyball, baseball, soccer and so many other incredible activities and Rachael says she wouldn’t want it any other way. Her family is always with her at events, working hard and willing to do whatever she needs them to. As small business owners, Rachael & Dana know how valuable the Chamber is in supporting local business.

Rachael's business acumen and talents shine through in everything she does. She is perceptive and driven and brings over a decade of planning experiences and organizing events of all sizes. She has worked with businesses, churches and nonprofit community organizations including Royal Family Kids Camp, Summit Academy, and Mountain View Christian Assembly. Rachael loves creating and planning, and the the organized chaos and exciting challenges. Her attention to detail and passion is demonstrated in every event; from festivals to boutiques, she has masterfully executed each one. She is excited for ShopFest 2023, it is going to be the best one yet! We are thrilled to have her serve the Eagle Mountain community as a part of our Chamber Team.

Chamber Teams Up with Community Organizations to Provide Opportunities for Local Businesses to "give back & get noticed"

In 2022, the Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce donated and helped to facilitate donations of over $20,000 to local charities and nonprofits. This year we are teaming up with Eagle Mountain City and other local nonprofits to provide opportunities for our local businesses to give back & get noticed.

The Chamber has launched a new page on the Chamber website for businesses to see opportunities and for local nonprofits to post their needs. There are opportunities for all budgets--from providing a trailer for city clean-up days to helping pop the popcorn at Movie in the Park, there are tons of ways to help.

One of the innovative new opportunities is the inspiration of Todd Black, the city's Wildlife Biologist and Environmental Planner. With the new "Adopt-a-Mule-Deer" program, businesses will be able to work with Eagle Mountain City and the Eagle Mountain Nature and Wildlife Alliance to fund the crucial gps tracking equipment for the local mule deer population. As an added perk to program sponsors, the business will get to name the mule deer that receives the tracking equipment and receive regular updates with the tracking information of their deer.

Congressman Owens Tours Local Businesses

Eagle Mountain Chamber and Congressman Burgess Owens toured local Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs Businesses on Friday, February 24. The Congressman was accompanied by Holly Sweeten, his Outreach Director. Mayor Tom Westmoreland, Councilmembers Brett Wright and Jared Gray, City Administrator, Paul Jerome, and Economic Development Director Evan Berrett joined Chamber President, Melissa Clark, and Board Members Tyler Savage, Diane Bradshaw, and Amanda Zufelt.

The tour began at the Ivory Barn at Overland Event Center where the group enjoyed lunch catered by local restaurant favorite Sean's Smokehouse . From the Barn, the group began the tour by hearing the history of telecommunications in Eagle Mountain from Diane Bradshaw, Direct Communications Eagle Mountain Administrator. The first stop was the Tyson Case Ready Plant , where Tom Sharp and Steve Grant, members of the Leadership Team at the Eagle Mountain Plant gave the visitors a quick tour. The tour showed some of the incredible innovation and efficiencies that make the EM location one of the leading plants in the country.

Next stop on the tour was Jeppson Automotive Repair , where owner Bryan Jeppson showed the Congressman the brand new Jeppson facility. Bryan and his family have been a community favorite for years, operating a mobile mechanic business out of their garage. They are excited to grow their business into a new brick & mortar location, just off of SR-73 and Sunset. Their Grand Opening Celebration will be March 1st at 4pm.

After Jeppson Automotive, the group visited R&R Tactical in Saratoga Springs. R&R is owned and operated by Rudy & Robyn Chavez. R&R is another example of a home-based business to brick & mortar success story. Rudy and Robyn started their business in Eagle Mountain out of their home and offer crucial safety training to first responders, public servants, and teachers. They have a huge following in the local community and are often the first to volunteer to help with local causes and charity supporting veterans.

The group then returned to Eagle Mountain and toured Summit Spa & Float , where owners Katrina Long and Sam Butler showed off their amazing team and gorgeous and successful Eagle Mountain location. They shared some of the training and education opportunities available at Summit for apprenticeship.

After Summit, the group visited Cedar Valley Pharmacy where Chase Fowler and Sheldon Birch, business partners, were able to meet with Congressman Owens to ask questions and help Owens understand some of the issues small town pharmacies face. The group also learned about the apprenticeships and training available to students seeking experience in the pharmacy field.

The last stop on the tour included a visit with local Commercial Developer from The Real Estate Group , Scot Hazard, and a tour of the new Parkway Crossing building. Hazard's new building has both residential and commercial together in the same location. Many innovative touches make this location a great place to work, live, and play. In addition to the residential component, the building is home to Vital Veterinary , and an outdoor food court for food trucks. A new restaurant will also be a great anchor to this project. Parkway Crossing is also home to Inspire Sports , another basement to brick & mortar success story. Owner Malorie Leavitt recently celebrated the Grand Opening of her new location in February. The group was able to visit the new Jurassic Taco with owners Fernando Felix and Jorge Garcia and were treated to fish tacos.

The tour was a tremendous opportunity to showcase just a small portion of the community's amazing businesses.

Meta Blueprint Building Business Workshop Hosts Businesses from Across the State

From Logan to St. George and from Vernal to Nephi, over 100 Small Businesses benefited from Meta Training

With the support of Meta and Mountainland Technical College-Lehi Campus, Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce teamed up with Chambers from across the state to train small businesses in the best digital tools to help grow their business. The workshops were presented on Thursday, February 23 at the MTECH Lehi Campus. Digital tools expert, Gibran Jones, was flown in to Utah, courtesy of Meta, to teach the over 100 participants. Not only were there local small business leaders in attendance, but businesses from Logan to St. George and from Vernal to Nephi were able to tune in via remote streaming of the workshops.

Tyson Foods Recognized by Chamber as Outstanding Business of the Quarter

Eagle Mountain Chamber and Eagle Mountain Chamber Ambassadors recognized Tyson with the Outstanding Business of the Quarter Award on February 16. Tyson was nominated by the Ambassador Committee because of Tyson's continued support of the Eagle Mountain Community and surrounding areas. Tyson is the first to step up to support a local food drive, local events like the Eagle Mountain Rodeo and ShopFest, and their team members also give back in so many ways. What most people don't know is that Tyson also stepped up in a big way to support one of our local BSA Scouting troops. Steve Grant, Chamber Board Member and member of Plant Leadership, even reported that the Tyson crew was excited to help the troop host their Pinewood Derby. Thank you Tyson for making Eagle Mountain a place we call home.
